The Philippine Language and Cultural Association of Australia Inc (PLCAA Inc) under the leadership of Dr. Alexis Leones recently organised the Youth Forum “Speak Out” on 5 April 2008 at the St. Marys Senior Citizen Centre at St. Marys, New South Wales.
The said youth forum was in line with the “National Youth Week” celebration of Penrith with the theme “Shout. Share. Live. Unite.
In the same forum, the Penrith Filipino Youth Action Group named "BARKADA - Pinoy Australian Youth Network" was launched as part of the programme emphasizing the need to promote greater awareness, pride and involvement in the Philippine cultural heritage.
The event's speakers were His Worship Mayor Greg Davies; Philippine Consul General Maria Theresa Lazaro; Mr. David Bradbury MP, Federal Member of Parliament for Lindsay; Ms. Marte Tagle, Director of Community Relations Commission; Ms. Erin Chew, known as the Young Woman of the West; and Matthew Alberto, Read Philippines Coordinator in Fairfield and a graduate law student of the University of Sydney. The youth participants benefited from the talks which dealt on youth leadership and multiculturalism.
The PLCAA has expressed their gratitude to all those who supported the event particularly the Philippine Community Council of New South Wales (PCC-NSW) headed by President Rey Manoto; Plaza Filipino, La Union Dance Group, SAFSI, Golf Par-e Social Club, Maharlika Inc, EVESTCCO, APO Australia Inc, among others . It was a successful event that has marked the excitement of PLCAA in pursuing their projects which are the following: 1) Read Philippines Project; 2) Penrith Community Filipino School, and the 3) Penrith Filipino Youth Group "BARKADA".

The annual sports festival between Filipino communities across Australian states will be held on 22 March 2008 at Clem Jones Sports Centre, Zahel Street, Carina, Brisbane, Queensland.PCC-NSW together with Revesby Press and Travel Access is sponsoring the Team NSW that will participate in FiLCCA's National Basketball Tournament. PCC-NSW joins the Philippine Language and CulturalAssociation of Australia, Inc. (PLCAA) in the Penrith Festival Parade onSaturday, 15 March 2008, an annual event in Penrith showcasing the differentgroups and businesses existing in the City of Penrith. With the theme "Hollywoodcomes to Penrith", this event promises to be full of fun and excitement. ThePenrith Festival starts at 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and the Street Parade will befrom 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm.
During the parade, the PLCAA will be promoting their threeprojects, the Read Philippines Project, Penrith Community Filipino School andthe Penrith Filipino Youth Group, which have been initiated in the City ofPenrith as a means of sharing the richness of the Philippine heritage andculture with the community.
